Third Grade Store!

In Social Studies, students learned some basic economic reasoning skills.  They learned that in making individual economic choices, it would involve trade-offs which would included opportunity costs and benefits.  In other words they had to make choices on what they could afford to spend with the limited budget they each had.
This in-class project gave them a hands-on approach while integrating social studies, language arts and math! Students learned about supply and demand, creating a budget, and how competition affects the consumer's choice.
They started off by writing a persuasive essay about their place of business and persuaded their readers to shop at their store.  Then, they were given a loan from the bank (me, of course) which included some play money.  Once they completed the task of buying and selling, they got to count their money and figure out how much profit they made.  I loved watching them beam with excitement about what type of "store" they would create for their consumers.  It was such a fun, interactive way to give them a real-world experience!

Easter Celebration

They look ready to go!!
This was a fun afternoon celebrating the fact the our precious Lord and Savior has indeed RISEN!

Class Chapel

This year we were given the privilege to speak on the Creativity of God!  What a tremendous blessing to share in the delivery of this truth but also to praise Him for how He continually demonstrates it to us through creation and in how he created us!  We are his handiwork and made in the image of God for the purpose of using our unique gifts and talents for His glory!
The kids did an amazing job and I was so proud of them!
These artists are showing off their artwork which are a series of pictures of things that God has created.

Mrs. Colt (Travis' mom) did an amazing job of sketching the pictures for the students to paint.  She also demonstrated her talent in the painting of earth! Thank you for your time, Mrs. Colt!  The students really enjoyed having a part in the painting!

Jog-A-Thon!

UCA had its first Jog-A-Thon fundraiser this year!  It was such an exciting time for all the Superheroes involved!  Thank you IMPACT for making this an incredibly SUPER event with plenty of fun for everyone!

Adopted Public Servant

This year each class had the opportunity to select a community service person that we could learn more about and be in prayer for. Our class selected Mr. Harbert (Layla H.'s dad).  Mr. Harbert is a reservist in the U.S. Military.  He taught the kids some basic military commands and what life is like as a soldier for our country.  The kids learned so much about how blessed we are to live in this country thanks to the sacrifices of these brave men and women.  I was thrilled to have him speak to them and share his experiences.

My favorite part was having the students pray over him and other soldiers.  What a blessing to have the freedom afforded to do so!
